For those wishing to fly to Colorado; Denver (DIA) is the closest major airport and is located about 3 to 3.5 hour drive from the ranch. A smaller airport, Yampa Valley Regional Airport/Hayden (HDN), is located 25 miles west of Steamboat Springs (1.5 hour drive from ranch) and offers limited commercial service. For those arriving in private aircraft, a public airport with a paved runway (Walden-Jackson County Airport, FAA #33V) is available in nearby Walden, located just 25 minutes from the ranch.
While transportation is provided for all on-site and off-site activities, we do recommend people have a car while on the ranch. We have found that most groups like to have a vehicle so they can run to town to get something, explore the area, or drive to one of the spots on the ranch where they can get cell service. We can provide pickup at the airport, but a round trip to Denver requires a staff member be gone for a whole day, each way, and we must charge accordingly. It is usually cheaper and more convenient for you to rent a car once you arrive to Colorado.
If driving to the ranch from the Front Range area (Fort Collins to Denver) there are two scenic options one should consider. First is the drive through Rocky Mountain National Park as it traverses the infamous Trail Ridge Road, the highest continually paved road in North America. You will drive well above tree line where you will have 100 mile views in every direction. This road is definitely closed during the winter. It runs from Estes Park on the eastern edge of the park to Grand Lake on the western edge. Grand lake is then only a one hour drive from the ranch. Another beautiful route into North Park is via Highway 14 from Fort Collins. This Nationally Designated Scenic Highway follows the Cache Le Poudre River for over 60 miles as it climbs its way to Cameron Pass (10,217 feet). Once summiting the Pass you will gradually descend into our beautiful valley; North Park. If you are flying into Denver and renting a car, try to arrive in the morning. This will easily allow you enough time to explore either of these spectacular drives before checking-in to the ranch at 4:00.
