From Walden, Colorado to the Buffalo Creek Ranch:

  • From the two gas stations in Walden (junction of Highways 14 & 125) take Highway 125 (for the first mile the road is a combo of Highway 14 west and 125 south) south towards Rand for 17.7 miles.
  • At 17.7 miles look to your left (east) for a log home with old machinery surrounding it;  directly across from it, on your right hand side (west), is Jackson County Road 28 (graveled)
  • Turn right (west) on JCR 28, proceed for one mile.  First left (south) is JCR 28A
  • Turn left (south) on JCR 28A and follow for 2.3 miles staying on the main road (Caution: at about 2 miles you will come to a blind, steep, and sharp corner; drive slowly!)
  • At 2.3 miles you will be at our ranch entrance (cattle guard and stone pillars); proceed onward for 1.1 miles until you reach a “Y” in the road.  To reach the ranch shop/office; stay on the main road and proceed forward for about 1 mile.
  • To reach the lodge, turn left (south) at the “Y”; you will cross a cattle guard.
  • Proceed forward for only 4/10ths of a mile where there will be another “Y” in the road; take the right fork, across another cattle guard, and proceed for another 200 yards.  The first building on your left is the lodge.  Two hundred yards past the lodge, on the right-hand side, are the stables.  Continuing past the stables a few hundred yards further, the first home on the left, overlooking the lake, is the manager’s home.

From Rand, Colorado to the Buffalo Creek Ranch:

  • From the Rand Store proceed north on Highway 125 towards Walden for 3.8 miles.
  • At about 3.7 miles you will cross Willow Creek and be heading up a hill.  At the top of the hill (3.8) miles you will see a log home with old machinery surrounding it; directly across from it, on your left hand side (west), is Jackson County Road 28 (graveled).
  • Turn left (west) on JCR 28, proceed for one mile.  First left (south) is JCR 28A.

From Muddy Pass (Junction Highways14 & 40) to the Buffalo Creek Ranch:

Note:  For those arriving to the ranch from the west (Kremmling, Colorado or Steamboat Springs, Colorado), it is more convenient to use the ranch’s west entrance.

  • From the Junction of Highways 40 and 14 (Muddy Pass & the Continental Divide) take Highway 14 east (actually more northerly) towards Walden for 16.6 miles.
  • At approximately 16.5 miles there will be a sign or your right hand side (east) that reads “Rand” and points to the right.  Jackson County Road 28 is on the right at 16.6 miles.
  • Turn right (east) on JCR 28 and proceed for 5.5 miles.  The first mile is paved; at the end of the pavement is a fork in the road; stay left; proceed towards the east.  At 5.5 miles our ranch entrance (a large log archway and cattle guard) will appear on your right side.
  • Turn right at the ranch entrance and follow the road for approximately 3 miles until it comes to a “T” in the road (there will be a brown metal building in front of you)
  • To reach of ranch shop/office, turn right and proceed about 100 yards.
  • To reach the lodge, turn left; proceed for about 8/10ths of a mile where there will be a road on your right side.  Turn right where you will cross a cattle guard.

Checking-In:

If your arrival is close to the time we were expecting you, please proceed directly to the lodge where someone will check you in.  If you arrival time is different than that previously scheduled and there is no one at the lodge, someone can usually be found at the shop office or the managers house.  All ranch employees carry two-way radios and are in contact with management should you get turned-around and need help.  Just flag down anyone you see.
